Weekend Bits – Links I Love

I always enjoy the final few days leading up to Christmas the most.  The mad rush of gift buying is (mostly) complete, the halls are decked and the holiday parties are winding down.  With family close by, we don’t have to travel.  For me it’s a time to slow things down and truly appreciate the season.  So today, with our first snow on the ground and nothing on the calendar, I get to enjoy one of my favorite traditions: holiday baking with the family.  We have a lot of favorites at our house but the one treat we make every year is Oreo truffles (aka Snowman Poop).  This is my kind of recipe: 3 ingredients, simple steps and they taste ahhh-mazing!

Snowman poop I can manage but not all of my holiday goodies will turn out like the gorgeous recipes I pinned on Pinterest.  If you’re like me, this next link will make you feel better about your efforts: 17 hilariously tragic holiday baking fails complete with pics of expected result vs. reality.

If you’ve procrastinated and have some serious gift buying ground to cover today, here is a game plan to do all of your holiday shopping in just 3 hours.

We all know the holidays are meant for spending time with the family and creating memories worthy of a Hallmark special.  Just in case your family is more Griswold than Norman Rockwell, you can find survival guides here and here.

It can be a subject of great debate, which Christmas movie is the best?  Over the next several days you can make your own top 10 list.  Catch up on your favorites along with the holiday specials.  This holiday TV roundup will help you set your DVR.

If you missed Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon on last night’s SNL Christmas show, you have to check out their hilarious rap medley about wrapping gifts appropriately titled: ‘Wrappinville’.

Happy Holidays!

Weekend Bits – Links I Love

I had someone tell me this past week that there are only 7 shopping weekends until Christmas (and that’s counting this weekend friends).  As if a daily countdown isn’t bad enough, this news about sent me into a full on panic attack.  But I’m vowing to stay calm and focus on prep work I can do now to ease stress later.  One thing that helped me last year was buying a few hostess gifts early to have on hand as holiday parties fired up.  This gift list from POPSUGAR Home is a great start and they’re all under $25.

I always have this pipe dream that I’m going to take the time to create beautifully wrapped gifts for friends and family.  I found these gorgeous gift wrap ideas to inspire me this year.  And while I’ll likely still end up wrapping my gifts in paper and stick on bows from Target, I’ll pin these ideas in Pinterest and pledge to try again next year.

Speaking of Pinterest, Pin to Win contests are popping up all over the place. Domino Magazine just announced a holiday contest and the grand prize is a $500 gift card to domino.com. You can check out the details here.
